Winter on Norfolk Island Just Got Even Better
When Ian and I first welcomed guests to Trade Winds Country Cottages, we always hoped people would feel like they were arriving somewhere personal, peaceful, and genuinely cared for.
That feeling matters even more during winter on Norfolk Island.
The island becomes quieter, slower, and beautifully calm this time of year. The roads are peaceful, the sunsets feel softer, and there’s something special about cosy evenings after a day spent exploring rugged coastlines, local cafes, and scenic walking tracks.
Winter has always been one of my favourite seasons here, which is why we wanted to create something a little extra for our guests over the quieter months.
For all direct bookings arriving between now and the end of August 2026, we’re including our complimentary Surprise and Delight Hamper, valued at over $250.
I won’t spoil everything inside, but it’s filled with thoughtful treats, local touches, and little comforts to help you settle into island life from the moment you arrive.
It’s our way of saying thank you for choosing to stay with us directly.
At Trade Winds, we’ve always believed hospitality is about the small things. A warm welcome after a long flight. Sharing our favourite local spots. Freshly prepared cottages that feel instantly relaxing. And of course, Bentley, our Labrador, who considers greeting guests one of his most important responsibilities.
What I love most about Norfolk Island in winter is how easy it is to truly slow down.
There’s no rushing here.
You can spend the morning wandering through the Kingston ruins, take a scenic drive along the coastline, enjoy long lunches with local produce, or simply sit on the verandah with a book and listen to the birds.
And while many people think of Norfolk as a summer destination, winter is incredibly mild compared to many parts of mainland Australia. We often welcome guests escaping the colder southern states who are surprised by how comfortable and enjoyable winter feels here.
Norfolk Island also offers something many travellers are craving right now. It feels like an overseas escape, without the stress of international travel.
- Direct flights from Brisbane and Sydney
- No passport required for Australian travellers
- Same currency and language
- No GST
- A genuine chance to disconnect and recharge
